Double Dutch Pigtails For Short Hair

When I cut my hair, it felt like I was saying goodbye to braids and some of the more complicated hairstyles that I loved. One style I saw a lot this summer but never tried was double dutch braids or boxer braids. With a little adjustment in the form of braids and a bit of patience, this style is still possible on shorter hair. Step One: Divide your hair into two equal sections and tie one side. Step Two: Take a small section of hair towards the front of your head and divide it into three sections to begin your braid. Step Three: To do an inverted French braid or Dutch braid, cross the sections under each other. Step Six: When you reach the base of your scalp, secure your braid with a small elastic, leaving some hair in a ponytail. This style also looks really cute with longer hair where instead of leaving little pigtails at the end, you can do two messy buns. I was nervous to try such a complicated braid style on short hair, but French and Dutch braid styles work much better than regular braids for short hair. Because you add sections as you go down, you don't need long hair to do the braids. If your hair seems too short and slippery initially with this style, try prepping it with volumizing powder, which will give you thicker tresses and “stickier” hair that holds the style better. If you are looking for great workout hair, try this style with a traditional French braid.
