Update Your Boxer Braids With A Fishtail
(image via Pinterest)HOW TO GET THE BOXER BRAID FISHTAIL
Step 1:
Apply Heat Defense Serum ($30, loveamika.com) to help detangle hair. Step 3:
Apply Haute Mess Texture Gel ($24, loveamika.com) to the base of the hair at the parting and hairline, then brush the hair towards its respective side. Step 4:
Starting at the front of the hairline, start braiding the hair into a cornrow by dividing the hair into three small sections. Step 5:
Continue braiding, adding larger sections as you progress through the braid. Step 6:
End your cornrow about two inches past the nape of the neck, then divide the three sections of the original braid into two equal sections to start your fishtail. Step 7:
Depending on the length of the hair, end the braid several inches above the ends of the hair. Step 10:
Use a 25mm wand to curl the ends of the hair and apply Un.Done Texture Spray ($24, loveamika.com) to those ends to create a bit of separation and add a matte finish.
How To Do Boxer Braids With Short Hair
I'm super excited to share a tutorial for one of my favorite styles these days now that my hair is shorter – Boxer Braids. Step One: Brush your hairBrush your hair and use a dry shampoo to get rid of all the oils. Step Two: Add Texture
Next you will want to use pomade, I use Kenra flexible fiber. Step Three: Separate
You will take a section from the top and divide it into 3 equal parts and create a Dutch braid. Step Four: Begin Braiding
Keep your braid very close to your scalp and braid towards the back of your head, not towards the floor. Step Five: Securing the Braid
You can finish the braid by securing it with a ponytail or a bun, I prefer to use a bun and I use transparent rubber bands. Step Six: Stretch the Braid
Before you secure the braid, you'll want to stretch or widen the braid, so that's technically step five, but since you need to lightly secure the braid to do this, I wanted to share it in that order. Step Seven: Create a Volume
Gently pull the pieces of the separated braid parts to widen the entire braid, starting from the bottom up. Step Eight: Secure the Sides
Once you're done with both sides, gently pull the sides of your hair up and secure them to the "seam" of your braid with bobby pins. Step Nine: End It
Spray the Puff Me again on the hair and part the top braid to create volume. Other links I promised to share from my video:
- Dry shampoo
– Blow me
– Soft fiber
– Favorite hairspray
– Transparent elastics
– Mascaras
– Verb ghost oil
– IGK dry wax
Wow!
