This Cult-Favorite New York Salon Just Became The City’S Best Beauty Shop

Under Silvestera's humble leadership and deft scissor work, word-of-mouth recommendations brought fashion designers, writers, architects, painters and actresses through the doors of the salon - a rolodex that turned developed to include Lynn Yaeger, Chloe Sevigny, Leigh Lezark, Hamish Bowles and Ricky Saiz among other fashion icons who challenge the boundaries of the eras they define. Each came for what Sevigny described over the phone as the stylists' abilities to "make the most of what you've got", focusing on an individual's texture, silhouette and style of dress to provide ease custom wash. There's no fancy handbag atmosphere, no snobbery and just great music.

Regulars arrived in droves, hung out and formed a cult following for Blackstones own product line, Five Wits (Sevigny has sworn by the Moisture Shampoo and Hydrate Conditioner for years. And, to this day, the advice and tips product recommendations once exclusively traded between the stylists and clients behind the chair are made public with the launch of the Blackstones Collective, a website, Instagram feed and in-salon shop filled exclusively with tips and treasures enthusiastically chosen by the community from the living room.
