Hearns, who is part of the Air Force Reserve and is stationed once a month at Patrick Air Force in Melbourne (just south of Rockledge), said he has seen Melbourne's market potential grow over the years. "With the aerospace industry in place and the expanding space program, there is a lot of potential for growth and expansion."
Indeed, Melbourne's demographics will bring its own set of opportunities. "In the middle of the state where the Great Lakes stores are located, there are mainly retirement communities - about 60% of our business is linked to The Villages - but on the east coast (of Florida), it is It's also a mix of retirees, like those working in the space and aerospace industries.
The acquisition, offered to Hearns, will improve Great Lakes' business in several areas, particularly with respect to products. We don't produce a lot of hardwood, so we're excited to grow that part of the business and continue with what they've built.
Tom Urban, Managing Director, added, “I can't say enough positive things about the hardwood side of their business – it's something we've always wanted to do more of in the Great Lakes stores. “Through our affiliation with the NFA, we are moving away from the distributor-centric model of Classic,” Hearns said. "Right now we don't have the space, but later the plan is to be able to expand the showroom and add window treatments and rugs," Hearns said. "It's hard to find employees and they have a lot of great people who have worked with them for many years and most have stayed," Hearns said. He wants us to be involved in any way we would like,” said former Classic Flooring Center owner Don Herndon.
