These instructions are for a stained wood mirror but can be adapted to any type of frame:

Measure your mirror. You'll be gluing the frame to the edges of the mirror, so make sure the outside edge of the frame matches the outside dimensions of the mirror. Otherwise, go to your local hardware store and buy lengths of wood moldings. For a discount option, purchase lightly used or salvaged lumber from your local construction surplus or thrift store. Wearing gloves and safety glasses, gently sand rough edges, chips and pre-existing stains or paint the wood. It is important to stain both sides of the wood because when you glue it to the mirror, the back of the frame will be reflected. Carefully measure your wood and mark where you want to cut. Squeeze a strip of construction adhesive onto each piece of wood and press it to the appropriate edge of the mirror, making sure the pieces line up properly at the corners.

It's Dan, by the way, and I'm happy to announce that this is my first contribution to the monthly DIY Challenge! Well, in the early stages of this project, we actually removed some built-in shelves that were really useless. This challenge was the perfect opportunity to use a few choice boards… We also wanted to do something with one of those standard plastic framed full length mirrors we had. Anyway, the challenge for me was not just to use these scraps in a new way, but to build the frame with mitered corners. By making miter cuts, you end up with a shorter board on one side than the other. The table saw is not necessary, a miter block and handsaw would work for this project. Step 3 - Mount the Mirror with Mirror Clips

These mirrors are usually framed with cheap plastic, glued with glue and lined with cardboard, so all that was needed was to remove the cardboard and take a razor blade to the glue that bonds the mirrors to the frame. Now here's why I cut my boards narrower in step one...the easiest way to attach the mirror is to just flip the new frame over, carefully lay the mirror over the opening, then add the clips on all sides to hold it in place.
